After seven months on the market, Richard Gere has finally found a buyer for his nearly 50 acre property in Pound Ridge, New York. According to Mansion Global, the buyer is paying the full asking price of $28 million for the ultra-private estate that’s surrounded by 4,300 acres of protected land. The deal is in contact and has not been finalized yet.
When the actor purchased it back in 1986 for $1.51 million it was just land. Since then he’s undoubtedly spent a lot adding the five different structures, stables, a soccer field, and a swimming pool. The main colonial-style residence rings in just below 12,000 square feet with eight bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and plenty of lounge areas. The wood-paneled library and family rooms both feature fireplaces and built in window seating to maximize the homey atmosphere, plus large windows that provide a glimpse of the lushly forested surroundings. Throughout the interiors, custom millwork with varying degrees of detail instill a sense of sophistication amid more bucolic elements. The primary suite’s bathroom is particularly classy, with dark wood flooring, dual sinks, and a porcelain tub placed dramatically in the center of the room.

It’s unclear how many bedrooms the guest house holds—or even if there’s more than one guest house—but it appears to be spacious, too, judging by the large eat-in kitchen. Outside, along with the aforementioned added amenities, there’s a private lake with a sandy beach and island, numerous covered seating areas extending from the main house, and a stone patio that’s partially shaded by a pergola.
