Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have moved themselves to Los Angeles ahead of the U.S. and Canadian border closure. According to People magazine, the Duke and Duchess have been living in a “secluded compound” in Southern California and “haven’t ventured out amid the coronavirus pandemic.”

The pair was previously living on Vancouver Island with their 10-month-old son, Archie, but unnamed sources told the publication that they relocated to the United States after the announcement that the U.S.-Canadian border would be closed to nonessential travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, currently lives in Los Angeles, and the couple’s network would likely be able to better provide support in Los Angeles than in Canada. “Harry is looking straight ahead at his future with his family,” the source told People. “They will be spending time in California.…He’s not looking back.”

Meghan and Harry attended their last official royal event in the U.K. on March 9, the annual Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey. (This also marked the last time that the couple spent time with Harry’s father, Prince Charles, who recently tested positive for the coronavirus. The palace has confirmed that Prince Charles had spoken with both Harry and Prince William about his diagnosis.)

It’s unclear whether the couple’s present living situation is temporary, but a different source previously told People that the couple has been “looking at houses in L.A.” The Duke and Duchess will continue to have use of Frogmore Cottage as their official residence whenever they return to the U.K., though their royal duties officially end March 31. The palace has not confirmed reports about Meghan and Harry’s whereabouts.
