Momentum Solar Overview

Momentum began providing residential solar power systems in New Jersey in 2009. The company now operates in 10 states: California, Connecticut, Georgia, Florida, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas. Momentum has also made recent efforts to include solar battery services with its solar panel installations. Currently, the company only offers this service in California, Florida, New Jersey, and Texas.

Though Momentum’s availability is limited, this is deliberate. The company only operates in states with established net-metering programs. A net-metering program is a billing arrangement with your local utility company in which the company tracks your surplus energy production and subtracts that amount from your power bill. Momentum also tends to operate in states with additional solar rebates and tax incentive programs.

Momentum Solar
Panel Options

Momentum Solar relies on various solar panel manufacturers. The company only uses Tier 1 solar panels, which means all its manufacturers have been producing panels for at least five years. Momentum also uses monocrystalline solar panels. These panels have the highest average efficiency rates, ranging from 15% to 30%. They also have the longest lifespan, averaging between 25 and 40 years.

Warranty Options

Momentum Solar includes two warranties with its services: a 25-year equipment warranty and a 25-year workmanship warranty. The equipment warranty covers components of your solar system, such as inverters and panels, and the workmanship warranty covers any issues that arise from the installation of the system itself.

Installation and Offered Services

Momentum provides a standard solar installation process. First, a Momentum specialist conducts either an in-home or virtual consultation over Zoom to see if you’re a viable candidate for solar energy. Then, Momentum designs a custom system for your home. The company handles all required paperwork and permits from your local municipality.

Finally, the company sends a team to install your system and schedules any required inspection for post-installation. Once you receive Permission to Operate (PTO), Momentum schedules a local grid connection with your utility company to set up net-metering.

In addition to solar panel installations, Momentum offers battery storage installation in select states. Its battery backup system, the Enphase Encharge, stores excess energy produced by your solar panels. This stored energy can be used when your panels aren’t producing electricity, like at night or during power outages. Momentum offers two modules: The Encharge 3 for 3.36 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and the Encharge 10 for 10.08 kWh.

Momentum also partners with Enphase for 24/7 active monitoring. The Enphase MyEnlighten app lets you check your system’s health, view its performance against weather data, and share interesting metrics on social media.

Momentum Solar Cost and Payment Options

Momentum doesn’t provide any cost information online, so you’ll have to contact them for a personalized quote. However, the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) estimates that the national average cost of solar panel installation for a standard-sized 6-kilowatt (kW, or 6,000 watts) residential system is around $18,000.** This price is before any federal tax credits or local incentives

Momentum Solar offers various payment methods. See the company’s payment options in detail below.

  • Full purchase: Buying your Momentum solar panels outright is the most cost-effective option. You can take full advantage of any tax incentives and avoid additional long-term costs from interest rates.
  • Solar loan: Solar loans work like any other loan. You pay a monthly fee to own the system, and you can still benefit from solar incentives. However, you’ll pay more over time due to interest rates.
  • Solar lease: A solar lease lets you benefit from solar energy with little to no up-front cost. Instead, you pay a fixed monthly rate. However, you can’t use any tax incentives because you don’t own the panels.
  • Power purchase agreement (PPA): A PPA means you pay a monthly fee based on the amount of energy your Momentum solar panels produce. Think of it as paying your typical monthly electricity bill

We suggest you take advantage of the federal solar tax credit and any local and state solar tax incentives. To see what rebates and credits you may qualify for, use the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency
