New dads Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Justin Mikita are moving their family of three into a new home. Shortly after putting their Spanish Colonial in L.A.’s Los Feliz neighborhood on the market for $6.995 million, the couple has purchased a place in Encino, in the San Fernando Valley, for  $8.7 million, Dirt reports.

With seven bedrooms, eight full bathrooms, and 9,081 square feet, their newly built (in 2020) house has plenty of room for the Modern Family star, his lawyer husband, and their nine-month-old son, Beckett Mercer Ferguson-Mikita. Quite modern in style, the residence’s exterior features cedar siding, natural stone, and shou-sugi-ban, a Japanese technique for producing charred cedar that appears black in color.

These materials are also used inside. The floors and ceilings are mostly cedar, and the dwelling features stone accents, a stone mantel, and a stone wall inside the under-the-stairs wine cellar. Even the kitchen cabinets are white oak, with Calcutta porcelain countertops. Throughout the home, plenty of large windows allow natural light to enter, and on the second-floor main suite, there is a picturesque balcony complete with a fire table. Other features of the property include a detached guest house with its own bathroom, kitchen, and deck, plus a pool and spa in the backyard.

The home Ferguson and Mikita are leaving behind is smaller but was extremely stylish under their ownership. They decorated it with the help of Will & Grace set decorator turned interior designer Peter Gurski, giving it a sort of Gothic-inspired feel with details like plaster, stained glass, a giant metal horse, and a vintage piano. When AD visited that home in 2018, Mikita said of the piano, “We bought it knowing that when we have kids, we will force them to take lessons, like we were forced.”

We’re not sure if that means the Steinway will now come with them to their new digs, but either way, we can’t wait to see how they decorate
