People love Ohio for its slower pace of life, top-tier universities, and distance away from the noise of the big coastal cities, but the state isn’t immune from the reach of bitter Midwestern winters. Even the best-maintained home systems and major appliances will inevitably experience breakdowns due to normal wear and tear. A home warranty offers comprehensive service to help you pay for the repair and replacement costs associated with your home systems and appliances, like your heating unit and oven.

All plans are eligible for flexible pricing by choosing your own service call fee. Generally, the higher the service call fee, the lower your monthly fees.

Choice Home Warranty

Fast Facts:

  • Number of Plans: Two
  • Service Fee: $85
  • Get a Quick Quote: Visit site

Plans

Choice Home Warranty is a valuable consideration for any homeowner seeking to cover their home’s essentials without compromising on the choice between built-in systems and appliances. Both of Choice’s plans offer combination coverage for items such as your water heater, ceiling and exhaust fans, and even your whirlpool tub.

Since 2019, Choice Home Warranty has been involved in a class-action lawsuit that alleges that the provider failed to follow through on its obligations to consumers by denying claims in bad faith and routinely neglecting to communicate throughout the claim process. However, when secret shopping, we were told by a representative of the company that the provider had approved more than 90% of the 1.1 million claims filed in 2021.

Because the lawsuit claims that the company frequently denied claims for items that customers thought should be covered, we recommend that all potential customers take the time to thoroughly read and review the sample contract to familiarize themselves with policy exclusions and limitations.

Basic Plan ($46.83 per month): The Basic Plan covers your heating system, water heater, electrical system, plumbing system, plumbing stoppages, oven, range, stove, built-in microwave, cooktop, dishwasher, garbage disposal, ceiling and exhaust fans, ductwork, garage door opener, and whirlpool bathtub.

Total Plan ($54.75 per month): The Total Plan expands on the coverage of the Basic Plan by covering your clothes dryer, clothes washer, refrigerator, and air conditioning system.

Our Recommendation

The home warranty that works best for you is always going to depend on your home’s unique needs. If you’re most focused on high coverage caps (the total amount a provider is willing to pay for a covered item), American Home Shield’s no-limit coverage on built-in systems and coverage up to $6,000 per appliance is incredibly generous by industry standards.

If a long workmanship guarantee helps you rest easier, then AFC Home Club’s plan-length guarantee is unbeatable by any other provider on this list. If you want to have your pick from a long list of specialized add-ons, Liberty Home Guard may be the choice for you.

Before selecting a home warranty company in Ohio, we recommend requesting a quote from all of the providers on this list (or at least three), comparing the fine print, and taking the time to ask clarifying questions when you speak to a sales representative. This initial research will help you avoid future misunderstandings and unexpectedly denied claims.

FAQ About Ohio Home Warranty Companies

How We Chose the Top Home Warranty Providers

Our team reviewed and researched dozens of home warranty providers, thoroughly analyzed sample agreements, and identified customer pain points based on customer-review analysis and interviews with industry experts.

During this process, we determined that the most critical aspects of a home warranty company include available service plans and add-ons, depth of coverage, plan cost, industry reputation, customer support infrastructure, and additional features. We also focused on the ability to choose your own contractor, upgrade your coverage package, transfer your plan to another owner, and cover roof leaks, high-end appliance brands, ceiling and exhaust fans, and faucets and fixtures.

Our research supported that plan coverage should carry the most weight, with customer support as the second-most important factor. Industry reputation, plan availability, and additional features were rated equally. Therefore, we determined that price range, while worth considering, should not be the primary basis for choosing a home warranty provider for your home’s needs.
