For many wine enthusiasts, the idea of leaving everything behind and opening a winery of your own is romantic and alluring. Who wouldn’t want to stroll through picturesque vineyards and sip vintages all day long? Some celebrities—including Sting and Tamera Mowry-Housley—have begun to embrace such a lifestyle, purchasing properties where they can produce, sell, and share wine with loved ones and the general public alike. From Tuscany, Italy, to Sonoma County, California, you can discover a celebrity-owned winery in a scenic destination that’s fit for nearly every type of traveler (and drinker). Ahead, read more about the best celebrity wineries for your wanderlust list.

Sting

Sting has been in the winery business since 1999, when he purchased a sprawling 865-acre estate in Tuscany. Although he told the Italian magazine Sette that, at the time, the property was “in ruins,” the previous owner managed to sell him on its potential. Today, it’s known as Il Palagio, which currently produces about 150,000 bottles of wine a year, including a sparkling, a white, a rosé, and three reds, according to Decanter. The enchanting Tuscan villa can be booked for private events, and Sting and his wife Trudie Styler have opened a farm shop selling fresh vegetables and fruits grown on the estate.

Fergie

For former Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie, wine is a family affair: She and her father, Pat Ferguson, opened Ferguson Crest in 2006. Set overlooking California’s Santa Ynez Valley, the six-acre estate winery produces an assortment of varietals, from a crisp Viognier to a spicy Syrah. A lifelong horticulturist, one day Ferguson decided to focus on growing grapes and making wine and hasn’t looked back, according to his daughter, who discussed their winemaking business with the California Wine Club. Though the winery doesn’t appear to be open to the public, it does have a club: Members receive priority access to its handcrafted, small-production, and limited-edition autographed bottles of wines.

Dave Matthews

Although Dave Matthews has owned Blenheim Vineyards in Charlottesville, Virginia, since 2000, these days he appears to keep a low profile regarding his day-to-day involvement with the winery. Primarily growing Viognier, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot, Blenheim Vineyards has a tasting room where guests can try one or all. The main building is split into the tasting room above and the wine production facility below. Visitors can peer through paneled glass floors in the tasting room to watch all the wine-making process in the production facility. Constructed from reclaimed wood, the timber frame tasting room is lined with south-facing windows and skylights, bringing in an abundance of daylight.

Francis Ford Coppola

The acclaimed director has been a formidable figure in wine for decades with his eponymous label, which now offers up to 80 different varieties. Movie buffs who moonlight as sommeliers might consider paying a visit to Coppola’s Sonoma County winery, where you can take in a tasting and take in a little cinematic history from some of his film sets. Rustic, the on-site restaurant, delivers sweeping views of Alexander Valley from both the dining room and outdoor terrace. The menu features some of Coppola’s traditional Italian favorites, like chicken mattone and fiorentina steak.

In Napa Valley, California, you’ll find Tamera Mowry-Housley and husband Adam Housley running Century Oak Winery and their tasting room Housley, the latter of which is open seven days a week and a popular spot among locals. In fact, Mowry-Housley can often be spotted pouring glasses and popping corks herself. Since Century Oak Winery was founded in 2000, its wines have earned more than 170 medals in various industry competitions. In summer 2021, the couple expanded their business offerings to include coffee, and they launched Barnhouse Napa Brews.

David Beckham

Back in 2008, David Beckham reportedly purchased a Napa Valley vineyard for his wife Victoria Beckham as a birthday gift. The timing of the decision aligned with his move to play for the L.A. Galaxy team. And yet, that’s all that’s really known about the Beckhams’ foray into wine. Few details about their winery are publicly available, and it isn’t clear whether the former soccer star still presently owns the Napa Valley estate.

Brad Pitt

As far as celebrity wineries go, this one might be the most famous. Brad Pitt and his now ex-wife Angelina Jolie got married at the Miraval estate in the French village of Correns and loved it so much that they went on to purchase it in 2008. The Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel joined the operation to produce the wine, which became quite popular—Decanter reports that its first few thousand bottles of rosé wine sold out in mere hours upon its release in 2012. Unfortunately the vineyard has been a complicated factor in Pitt and Jolie’s ongoing divorce. Recently, Jolie sold her stake in the brand, and Pitt has filed a lawsuit against her stating that she had no right to do so. In the suit, the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood actor’s lawyers state that he has “devoted himself” to Miraval and call it his “passion,” which seems to check out given the fact that he recently embarked upon a new venture at the château, designing and building an on-site music studio.
